Following the H2eart Flagship Event on 30 September in Brussels, H2eart for Europe has published a new paper bringing together the key insights from discussions with policymakers, regulators, financial institutions and organisations across the hydrogen value chain on how to accelerate underground hydrogen storage (UHS) deployment.
The paper highlights four key insights from the event:
- UHS must be planned as part of the wider European energy system.
- Europe needs a clearer view of future UHS requirements to support timely investment decisions.
- Making UHS projects bankable requires targeted de-risking and a clear regulatory framework.
- UHS is an enabler of cross-border hydrogen infrastructure.
These insights add practical detail to H2eart for Europe’s seven policy priorities, which were outlined in the Position Paper “Unlocking Underground Hydrogen Storage: Securing Europe’s Future Energy System”.
