Ahead of the 2026 Flagship Event, H2eart for Europe has published a new position paper setting out the priorities to ensure that Europe has the underground hydrogen storage (UHS) it needs for a resilient, flexible and integrated energy system.
H2eart for Europe calls for the following priorities:
- Recognise UHS as core element of European energy infrastructure;
- Put long-duration storage at the heart of energy security and resilience policy;
- Assess Europe’s future storage adequacy needs now;
- Provide appropriate de-risking to enable anticipatory investment;
- Reflect the cross-border value of storage;
- Accelerate permitting, standards and regulatory implementation;
- Move from recognition to implementation through a coordinated UHS agenda.
